'Think about the children'

Refugees living on an open field at Strandfontein's Blue Waters campsite were this morning battling to choose between accepting help from the City of Cape Town and leaving the site - or having their children taken away from them by provincial authorities.

Yesterday, the group was given 24 hours by the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in which to accept the City's offers of help - or face having their children taken away from them by officials from the Western Cape department of social development.

This morning, emotional refugees reacted angrily when a man arrived and started encouraging them to "think about the children".
